With Albatross 2 Champs revolutionised the software 'engine' of its Optical Control Systems. The software has been developed and tested to allow the most demanding optical inspections, speed over 1000 pieces per minute and accuracy up to ±1µm.

A POWERFUL ENGINE

Albatross 2 replaces and improves the management and analysis system of the acquired image. The libraries on which Albatross leans, provides powerful and comprehensive tools for image processing. Thanks to the automatic parallelization and multithreading functionality, the image analysis is performed between 2 and 20 milliseconds (also in the presence of many complex controls and analyses such as control of thread at 360 °) by enabling unprecedented working speed and reliable results.
This features allows up to 500 complete analysis per second which allows, for instance, the following possibilities:

• multiparameter live scanning of the spinning part to allow an effective and complete 360° Inspections


• spot surface defects with multiple illuminators in a stereoscopic array with dial in continuous motion


• inspection and measurement of internal holes and threads under different light setups with dial in continuous motion (i.e. diameter of a hole and presence of burrs or double thread)

With ALBATROSS 2, Champs confirms its commitment to offer its customers tools that define the state of the art of Machine Vision in the industrial sector.

MANY CONTROLS BUT ALWAYS A SUPERSONIC SPEED

Albatross 2 uses both the potential of the hardware's multicore architecture of the current CPUs to constantly optimize the computing time of the software. Using a metaphor the new software behaves both like a highway that multiplies the lanes when the traffic increases and, at the same time and a vector that multiplies the couriers to reduce the delivery times of a set of articles.
Similarly Champs’ ALBATROSS uses 'automatic parallelization' to automatically divert the computation to free cores, preventing processes from being queued to allow simultaneous processing of multiple inspection tools on the same image. The processing time of an image with multiple measurements therefore no longer corresponds to the sum of the calculation times of each individual parameter but at the time prevented by calculating the most complex parameter.
Unlike most popular vision softwares, the speed of analysis does not increase exponentially as controls increase but is solely determined by the more complex control.
The extreme rationalization of the work of the software allows Champs to develop the fastest and most precise control machines. This brings an advantage in terms of performance that becomes more and more significant as the Optical Control Units and the complexity of controls increase.

MUCH MORE THAN A SOFTWARE UPDATE

Upgrading to Albatross 2, in addition to a software installation, involves converting hardware elements that support enhanced performance. To achieve a significant improvement in the performance of the Albatross 2, the inspection machine must be upgraded with:

• High resolution, high speed cameras


• Illuminators for fast-capture cameras


• GigE data transfer protocols, Ethernet 5e data transmission Cables


• Pc Hardware, GigE cards and drivers

The hardware to be replaced can therefore vary according to the equipment installed on the machine to be upgraded.
